Antique License Plates in Florida: What You Need to Know

Understand the Requirements

If you're an antique car enthusiast in Florida, you're likely aware that you need to obtain an antique license plate for your vehicle. To do so, you'll need to submit an application to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).

How to Apply

The application process involves submitting Form HSMV 83174 (Application for Registration of a Street Rod Custom Vehicle Horseless Carriage or Antique Permanent Form). This form is available online on the FLHSMV website. Once you've completed the application, you'll need to submit it to the FLHSMV along with a $25 application fee. You can mail the application or visit a local FLHSMV office.

Renewal and Replacement

All license plates in Florida are required to be replaced periodically. When your antique license plate expires, you'll need to renew it by submitting a renewal notice and paying the renewal fee. If your antique license plate is damaged or lost, you'll need to request a replacement by submitting Form HSMV 73326 (Application for Replacement License Plate). There is a $2 fee for a replacement license plate.
